Why Solar?

Whilst the majority of the world’s currently electricity supply is generated from fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas, these traditional energy sources face a number of challenges including rising prices, over dependence on imports from countries with significant fossil fuel reserves, lack of accessibility and growing environmental concerns over the climate change risks associated with power generation us.

Solar has the potential to solve all these challenges as:

1. It is free and simple to retrieve the energy from the sun, making it significantly cheaper than electricity produced by fossil fuels, which are costly to retrieve and supply.

2. It does not require use of fossil fuels and therefore is not reliant on this limited and expensive natural resource. This makes it better for the environment.

3. Anyone can access the energy from the sun, meaning anyone can use solar power as a source of electricity. This reduces reliance on countries that are rich in fossil fuels.

4. It can be utilised at various scales, making it suitable from the household and the community levels to industrial and national scale operations.
